Assists the Head Teacher in preparing and maintaining the prepared environment.
Reports any incident and all accidents immediately. Prepares a written report stating date, time, nature of the incident/accident, and action taken. Responsible for immediately reporting the incident/accident to the Director.
Attends meetings as requested.
Notifies the Head Teacher, immediately, of personal difficulties related to children, parents and staff.
Assists in the planning and implementation of other center projects, programs assigned by the Head Teacher or Director.
Utilizes positive phrasing of directives when with children.
Works with individual and small groups of children as directed by the head teacher.
Supervises classroom as directed by head teacher.
Responsible for the safety and well-being of the children at all times, both in the classroom and playgrounds.
Supervise s children in the execution of fire drills.
Maintains positive relationship with parents to give them a feeling of security in leaving their children at the center.
Other related duties as assigned
Qualifications
High School Diploma or equivalent (GED) is bare minimum as per New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene; College level course work in Education and/or applicable college degree preferred
Assistant Teacher Certification; Minimum of two (2) years teaching and/or providing child care for young children (ages 2-5 years old)
Child Development Associate (CDA)
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills - oral, written, and listening
Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel and PowerPoint) ability to navigate diverse online assessment tools
Knowledge of developmental milestones and Best Practices in Early Childhood Education Pedagogy
Knowledge of Health and Safety Practices and Guidelines
